Alan Zeigler was born and raised in Alabama in the Talladega County town of Oak Grove.
He attended Sylacauga city schools, graduating from Sylacauga High School. Following high school he received a congressional appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the Academy, Alan was an eight semester Dean’s List student and was selected to the Commandant’s List for military excellence for six semesters and to the Superintendent’s List for overall accomplishment for six semesters. Upon graduation from the Academy,
he was admitted with advanced standing to the University of California at Los Angeles. At UCLA, he
studied in the Anderson School of Management earning his Master of Business Administration degree.
After graduation from UCLA, Alan served as a procurement officer on major Department of Defense contracts for the Air Force. He gained recognition as Air Force Systems Command Junior Officer of the Year for his work on management systems utilizing
computer modeling techniques to aid cost and schedule control of multi-billion dollar procurement projects. While stationed in the Washington, DC area, he was enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Law. He resigned his Air Force commission in order to study law full time, returned to his native Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law.
After law school, Alan worked first in the corporate world, utilizing his financial management and analysis skills as well as his legal background in roles ranging from operations management to project and personnel administration. His efforts
were focused upon analyzing complex situations, development of
action plans
and managing to achieve the best possible outcome. After
living with his family in various locations from New York to Arizona,
he returned to Alabama in 1998. He and his family make their home in
the Birmingham suburb of Mountain Brook.
Alan’s private practice is concentrated in matters concerning
elder law. He has a special interest in long term care and
elder care matters involving financial
and legal issues requiring detailed financial analysis and planning, including Medicaid eligibility and asset protection planning. His
Birmingham area office is located off Highway 280 at I-459 at 1
Perimeter Park South, Suite 100N, Birmingham, AL 35243.
He has spoken to groups throughout Alabama on elder law issues and maintains an active speaking schedule to educate groups on these important areas of concern. Alan feels that providing information based upon the facts dispels destructive rumors and encourages people to make responsible decisions about the important areas affecting the personal, family and financial well-being of his clients as well as of the citizens of Alabama at large.
Alan is treasurer of the Elder Law Section of the Alabama State
Bar, chair of the Elder Law Committee of the Birmingham Bar
Association and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Alabama
Family Trust, Alabama's pooled special needs trust.
Alan has been married to Nancy Sallas Zeigler for 24 years. They have three children: Emily (a
CPA and two time graduate of
the University of Alabama), Zach (a sophomore at Auburn University
majoring in accounting) and Mary (a senior at Mountain Brook High School). They are active members at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. |
